Why is my cell phone battery draining so fast? It seems we have all wondered about our cell phone battery life and whether there are things to do to make the battery last longer.
As technology changes, advice changes on how to best extend your mobile phone’s battery, so we at Pure Talk have compiled some general tips for you.
Turn off Bluetooth and GPS
If you are not using them, turn off the Bluetooth and GPS. This will allow your phone to preserve its battery for a longer period of time because both consume high levels of battery power.
Take Advantage of Wi-Fi
If you have access to Wi-Fi, turn it on. This not only will save the amount of data you are using, but will also help your battery. Using data takes more battery juice than using Wi-Fi.
Reduce Social Media Usage
Phone batteries can die quickly due to excessive use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media sites. Try to close down social networking sites and log off Facebook when not using it. The less you use your phone for these activities, the longer your phone battery will survive.
Review what Applications Consume the most Battery Power
Go to your phone settings and see what applications are using the most battery. Then shut down those applications, and be aware of how often you are using those apps throughout the day.
Battery Power Saver Mode
If you know you’re in for a long day and won’t have a chance to recharge your phone, try putting it on battery saver or low battery mode. It may slow down the functions of the phone, but it will allow your phone to work for a much longer period of time. You can find this setting usually in “Settings” and then “Battery.”
Turn down Brightness
The brighter your phone’s display is, the more battery it will consume. Turn down the display brightness in your settings.
Update your Apps
To keep the phone running and functioning properly, keep your apps up to date. Most apps get updated automatically, but others require manual updates. Check your apps to make sure you are running the latest versions.
Turn off Vibrate
Another quick fix, like adjusting your screen brightness, is to turn off vibration. Vibration mode takes up more battery. If you are unable to live without your phone vibration all the time, when you notice your battery getting low and you still have a ways to go before your next charge, turn your vibration off to give you that last boost of life on your device.
Scrap Live Wallpapers and Widgets
Get rid of extra accessories like live wallpapers and widgets that you don’t use to help extend your battery life.
Charge When You Want
The rule of thumb to let your battery drain almost to empty before recharging is old advice. According to Apple, you can charge a cell phone lithium-ion battery as needed without diminishing its capacity. Of course, batteries do lose capacity over time but this should not be affected if you let your phone go to 80% and recharge it rather than draining it to 10% before recharging.
Keep in mind that the exact specifics of how to make a battery last longer will depend on your phone type and battery. We recommend looking at your cell phone manufacturer’s webpage for specifics and to help you answer the question, “what is draining my phone battery.”
